Over 1 billion ePassports are in circulation.
The Paragon ID e-passport cover uses contactless card technology, a microprocessor chip and an antenna (for powering the chip and communication). All of the elements are integrated into the cover on either side. Critical passport information is printed on the passport data page and stored in the chip itself.
A PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) is used to authenticate the data stored in the passport chip, making it very difficult to forge, when all the security mechanisms are in place. Many countries are now choosing to provide biometric passports to their citizens.

SPiD is a contactless solution developed specifically for ePassport applications. SPiD is available as a paper or Teslin® inlay for embedding in the passport cover or as an electronic cover.
The SPiD product meets all the requirements of the ICAO standard. It has undergone durability testing at numerous national printing plants. SPiD has been designed to be integrated into passport production lines without any modification to the equipment.
SPiD has successfully passed tests for mechanical strength, torsion, bending and stamping. Temperature and humidity tests have also been carried out by independent laboratories.
