A breakthrough for NFC technology

Apple has announced on the 11th of September that its new phones, the iPhone XS, XS Max and XR models will be able to read NFC tags without having to launch an app. A revolution for the brand and its users and a great development for NFC technology.

Until 2017, Apple had decided to strictly limit the embedded NFC function in their phones to Apple Pay. In June 2017, the company finally announced that with the release of iOS11 in September 2017, iPhones 7 and above would be able to read NFC tags. An app was however required to read the tags.

This new announcement is a breakthrough for the brand and its millions of users who can now more easily enjoy the benefits of NFC in many aspects of their lives - from paying their train fares to access exclusive content and special offers, authenticate the origin of products and enjoy a greater customer experience at events*...

Brands and retailers who were, until now, shying away from NFC because they didn’t want to alienate their customers equipped with an iPhone are going to be able to make full use of the technology.

As a proud member of the NFC Forum, Paragon ID takes part in working groups to develop NFC technology and new applications to fit the requirements of companies in diverse markets whilst always keeping in mind the users’ experience.
